A Very Curious Poison

A Very Curious Poison

Thank you to all our lovely supporters for making our recent production of A Very Curious Poison such a huge success. Over four performances at Avoncroft Museum of Buildings, (Bromsgrove) on 26 April, The Bear Pit Theatre (Stratford-upon-Avon) on 27 and 28 April and The memorial Hall (Henley-in-Arden) on 29 April 2023 we had full houses, amazing audience reactions and raised nearly £2,000 for worthy causes.

A Very Curious Poison is a new murder mystery comedy, written by Tim Johnson and set the glorious music of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas.

It is the 1930’s in the sleepy English village of Little Piffling where six well-heeled guests have assembled at Piffling Hall, all bearing mysterious invitations and each one hiding a dark secret.  Soon, polite civility is shattered by the mysterious death of wealthy society socialite, Lady Helena Handcart, poisoned by an unknown hand. Is Madame Eva Chestikov really a Russian émigré?  What is Mr E Eckerslike, a rich industrialist, really doing in this rural backwater?  Is Sir Preston de Bagot really as stupid as he looks?  Can the guests unravel the mystery before the killer strikes again? Meanwhile, the servants been sent home and fog is slowly rising…

Meanwhile…

A big thank you to our loyal audience for joining us in March and May 2022 as we performed Mozart’s classic comedy Cosi fan Tutte. Audience reactions to this morality tale about the crazy things people do for love and money have been heart-warmingly positive and a great reward for all the hard work by cast and crew. We are also delighted to announce that over £2,000 was raised for worthy causes at the performances in Henley-in-Arden and Bromsgrove.

Consensus Opera was founded by Tim and Claire Johnson in 2007 with the aim of bringing the best local actors and singers together to perform works combining drama with high quality operatic music, whilst at the same time raising money for worthy charitable causes.

The desire to bring operatic music in a truly dramatic setting to a wider audience is a major part of this philosophy, which we have pursued by taking our highly accessible performances to several local venues around Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds.

Consensus Opera also performs variety and review evenings combining a mixture of songs, sketches, monologues  and comedy items, interspersed with your favourite Songs from the Shows and Light Opera favourites
