A new musical murder mystery!

A Bitter & Twisted Cocktail

A Bitter & Twisted Cocktail is a new murder mystery comedy, written by Tim Johnson and set the glorious music of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas. Performances will be from 22 to 26 October, 2024.

It is 1935 on the French Riviera and the last descendants of the Wise and Fogbound families have gathered following the death of Alexis, head of the family temperance brewing business.  Bearing the will and the fates of all those assembled is his executor, the newly retired Inspector Lawless. He rapidly finds himself between a rock and a cleft stick as the will goes missing, echoes of the past emerge from the shadows, and an uneasy family truce unravels. Inspector Lawless is soon at the centre of his most difficult case and the truth he uncovers hangs around his neck like a Sword of Damocles – can he find the Gordian knot in a haystack in time, or will tragedy strike again?

Tickets now on sale for our performances at The Bear Pit, Stratford-upon-Avon (22 to 24 October, 2024; 7:30 pm).

Meanwhile…

Thank you to all our lovely supporters for making our production of A Very Curious Poison such a huge success in April last year. Over four performances in Bromsgrove, Stratford-upon-Avon and Henley-in-Arden we had full houses, amazing audience reactions and raised nearly £2,000 for worthy causes.

This followed our performances in March and May 2022 of Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte, his classic comedy about the crazy things people do for love and money. Really positive audience reactions and another £2,000 pounds raised for charities in Henley-in-Arden and Bromsgrove were great rewards for all our hard work as we emerged from Covid lock-downs.

Consensus Opera was founded by Tim and Claire Johnson in 2007 with the aim of bringing the best local actors and singers together to perform works combining drama with high quality operatic music, whilst at the same time raising money for worthy charitable causes.

The desire to bring operatic music in a truly dramatic setting to a wider audience is a major part of this philosophy, which we have pursued by taking our highly accessible performances to several local venues around Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds.

Consensus Opera also performs variety and review evenings combining a mixture of songs, sketches, monologues  and comedy items, interspersed with your favourite Songs from the Shows and Light Opera favourites
